Traditional classroom teaching has existed from time immemorial. The teacher delivers lectures in a classroom setting, allowing students to interact directly with peers and lecturers. However, this form of the education system has several disadvantages as education has increased over the past years. In such classrooms, as the students continue to listen to the teachers, the focus is led in the wrong direction by taking notes on the spot. When such practice occurs, it is more likely that the student will miss a part of the lecture. Also, the recordings are often not recorded. There are high chances that a student will forget the lessons taught a month ago if not regular in studying their lessons.
Considering the financial factor for traditional education, it is often an expensive form of education considered by many students and parents. Enrolling in a good school or university comes with a high cost, especially in buying books and traveling to the institute. Sometimes, a student may also have to travel miles to attend classes. Hostel fees could also be an added expenditure for such students. If a student wishes to study abroad, the charges for passport, visa, and other settlement-related expenses could cost a ransom amount of money.
The concept of one-size-fits-all is popular in the traditional education system. A single lecture is delivered to a group of students in a monotonous manner, and not all students will be brilliant enough to cope with the class. Some students may be slow learners who may not understand the lectures at once or may even take time to process the lessons. The difference in students' grades can be seen because of this one reason. Not all can learn fast, which may make them take extra tuition classes from the tutors, adding more financial burden in their lives.
It is often challenging to manage the pace of the lessons for the students. Teachers often hurry in finishing up the syllabus, and in this process, students may also have to hurry to attend the classes for the sake of attendance rather than learning. Learning could be done at any pace, but since students are set in such a competitive environment where the pressure to excel is huge, they often suffer from depression and feel highly demotivated. The chances of school dropouts also become higher due to the pressure they feel at school to excel with flying colors. The expense associated with traditional education also leads to the discontinuation of studies. Henceforth, every educationist must understand the drawbacks of the traditional education system and provide additional methods to support studies in every way possible. Nevertheless, this type of education continues to be the first preference of almost every student. With the advent of technology and considering the disadvantages of this education system, several have started switching to the online class system.
